Dismissal of Michael Barisone’s Lawsuit Against the United States Equestrian Federation

Obtained dismissal of all claims against USEF and entry of judgment in its favor; plaintiff subsequently appealed.

Jeffrey I. Carton of Denlea & Carton LLP represented the United States Equestrian Federation in a federal lawsuit brought by dressage rider and trainer Michael Barisone, who alleged that USEF failed to investigate and address reported misconduct by another member. Barisone asserted claims involving USEF’s governing documents, breach of contract, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, negligence, and breach of fiduciary duty. On August 17, 2026, Judge Edgardo Ramos granted USEF’s motion to dismiss the amended complaint in its entirety, and the court entered judgment for USEF on August 18, 2026. Barisone subsequently filed an appeal in September 2026.
